St. Barbara
St Barbara was a daughterof a wealthy noble pagan man from the city of Nicomedia called Dioscorus. He built her a tower to live in and erected around it idols so she would continue in wirshipping the gods that he wirshipped. St Barbara rose up her eyes to heaven from the top of the tower contemplating the beauty of the sky and what was in it: the sun, the moon and the stars. She came to the conclusion that the universe must have an able and wise maker who is worthy of worship and honor. Origen, the scholar, came to her and taught her the principles of the Christian religion. Barbara was enlighted with divine light. She was baptized in the name of the Fatherand the Son and the Holy Spirit and recied the Holy Mystries by the hands of a Christian priest. When her father realized she became Christian, he tried to slay her. There was a rock in front of her that split into two halves and she went throgh it. When he found her, he dragged her to the governer Marcianus. At first governer talked to her in afriendly way, but could not take away her love for the Lord Christ. Therefore, he ordered to torment her with different tortures. There was a young girl named Juliana who saw the Lord Christ strengthening and comforting St. Barbara. Juliana believed in the Lord Christ. The governer ordered her to be tortured also alongwith St. Barbara. All the means of torture failed to change their faith in the Lord Christ. Therefore, he ordered to behead both of them by the sword. They came forward unafraid of deathand the swordsman beheaded them and they both received the crowns of martyrdom on Kiahk 8th of the year 237 A.D. The blessing of their prayes be with us all. Amen.
